Born in France of Vietnamese origin, Philippe Do is a graduate of the Mannes College of Music in New York. He studied with the legendary Mirella Freni and won several international competitions, including the prestigious “Toti dal Monte” competition in 2001.

He sings on the most prestigious opera stages of the world: Scala of Milan, Bolchoï of Moscow, Marinsky of St-Petersburg, Lincoln Center in New-York, Opéra-Comique and Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, Zurich Opera, Grand-Théâtre of Geneva, Capitole of Toulouse, Venice La Fenice, San Carlo in Naples, Vienna Volksoper, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Festspielhaus of Baden-Baden, Festival dei Due Mondi of Spoleto, Macerata Sferisterio, Chorégies d’Orange…

Philippe Do is a very much sought-after singer for “the beauty of his lyric tenor voice with its refined mezza-voce, and the purity of the style” (Alan Blyth in Opera) especially in the French and the belcanto repertoire. Thanks to an easy top and a strong middle-register, as well as a formidable stage presence, he excels in a vast repertoire from Johann Christian Bach (Amadis de Gaule; Opéra Comique in Paris, Opéral Royal in Versailles) to Stravinsky (Rake’s progress, Festival of Royaumont), Mozart (Don Giovanni in Rome, Die Zauberflöte in Paris, Toulouse, Leeds, Schwerin), romantic belcanto (Donizetti: Anna Bolena, Maria Stuarda, Roberto Devereux in Prague and Budapest, Lucia di Lammermoor in London), French romanticism (Manon by Massenet in St Etienne, Roméo et Juliette by Gounod in Venice, Les Pêcheurs de perles by Bizet in Vérone, St-Petersburg and Moscow).

Over the last seasons, he has extensively explored the French repertoire: Carmen in Paris, Macerata, Moscow, Riga and Zurich; Faust in Mainz and Darmstadt; Werther in Ulm; Thérèse and La Navarraise by Massenet in Wexford; Pelléas et Mélisande in Prague; Robert le Diable by Meyerbeer in Sofia and London; Fra Diavolo by Auber in Vienna and Paris; Médée by Cherubini in Mainz and Mannheim. At the same time, he has sung the great roles of the Italian romantic repertoire: La Bohème and Gianni Schicchi by Puccini in Mainz; La Traviata and Madame Butterfly in Prague; Tosca in Lublin.

During the 2018/19 season, he sings Les Huguenots by Meyerbeer at the Opéra National de Paris, Don Carlo by Verdi and L’Amour des trois oranges by Prokofiev in Mainz, Eugen Onegin by Tchaikovsky in Aarhus.
