KUPFER Jochen

Jochen Kupfer, a Wagnerian baritone, is one of the most prominent representatives of German singers.

He studied in Leipzig and sought guidance from his elders, notably Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, while taking on his first roles, including Wolfram (Tannhäuser).

His vast repertoire includes roles such as Germont (La Traviata) and Pizarro (Fidelio), but it is truly in the great Germanic repertoire of Wagner and Strauss that he has gained recognition. He has achieved great success with roles like Mandryka (Arabella), Kurwenal (Tristan und Isolde), Orest (Elektra), and Beckmesser (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg), which he performed at Glyndebourne in 2016.

In addition to his permanent engagements at the Semperoper Dresden and the Staatstheater Nürnberg, he has been invited to perform at the Operas of Tokyo, Strasbourg, and the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, as well as at the Komische Oper Berlin, the Opéra of Leipzig and Zurich, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, and the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich.

A milestone in his career, he was named "Bayerische Kammersänger" in January 2016.

In 2018, he sang Escamillo in Nuremberg and Beckmesser at the NCPA in Beijing.

Recently, he returned to the role of Kurwenal at the Opéra National de Montpellier under the direction of Michael Schoenwandt.

Upcoming projects include Giove in *La Calisto* and Lescaut in *Manon Lescaut*, also in Nuremberg.
