Pianist / Composer

 

Born in Baltimore, Jeff Cohen studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris under Reine Gianoli and Geneviève Joy before taking his studies further with Leon Fleisher in the US and with Peter Feutchtwanger in England. He  teaches at the Conservatoire de Paris, and has had posts as a vocal coach at the Opéra de la Monnaie in Brussels, a professor at the Ecole d’Art Lyrique de l’Opéra de Paris, and an adviser at the Bibliothèque Nationale de la France for a series of concerts on the history of the French melody.

Among the works of his discography are a recital at La Scala with Angela Gheorghiu, a collection of the melodies of Duparc, Fauré, Hahn, Gounod, and Loeffler with François Le Roux, Mozart Lieder with Véronique Dietschy, songs of Kurt Weill and cabaret with Ute Lemper, and a disc of duos with Noël Lee.

Jeff Cohen is also a composer of film music. He produced and scored a children’s television programme, Jeff d’Orchestre, after his collaboration with Philippe Meyer for the programmes « Revenez quand vous voulez » and « Anticroches » made for French television.

In June 2006, Jeff Cohen was named Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres.
